Jonathan T Clark for Newport East

Plaid Cymru - The Party of Wales, has confirmed Jonathan T Clark as its candidate for the Newport East constituency for the forthcoming Westminster General Election.

Jonathan T Clark said:

"I am pleased to have been selected to contest the new Newport East constituency at the next Westminster General election. For far too long the people of Newport East have suffered from the fact that the Westminster parliament has long failed to consider the economic and social needs of the people of this constituency. “

He said:

“The people of Newport East need an MP who will actually put the real concerns of the electors of Newport to the forefront rather than simply pursing party interests. Wales needs more Plaid MPs in Westminster to work to deliver for the people of Newport and the people of Wales. The only way to get a government that will always put the interests of Newport at the heart of government in Westminster is return more Plaid MP’s".

Jonathan continued:

“ I will be Newport East’s voice in Westminster rather than Westminster’s voice in Newport East. A vote for Plaid Cymru on 4th July is a vote for fairness, ambition and a strong local voice that will put Newport East and Wales' best interests forward in Westminster."

Jonathan concluded:

“I aim to bring that combination of curiosity, stubbornness, tenacity and a real desire to seek the truth combined the skills acquired working as a journalist, in public relations for the police, in public sector education and recruitment. I have the ability to seek the truth and an understanding as to where it can be concealed which would be useful while working as Newport East’s representative in Westminster.”

Liz Saville Roberts MP, Plaid Cymru Leader in Westminster, said:

“I’m delighted that Jonathan has been selected as the candidate for Newport East in this desperately needed general election. Jonathan’s commitment to the people of Newport has been clear. I know that if Jonathan was to join the Plaid Cymru team in Westminster, he would be a hard-working champion for Newport East and for Wales.

“We are in a time of change, but Labour does not mean change for people in Newport East. There is a real need for challenging voices like Jonathan’s in Westminster, standing up for his community and asking ‘What does this mean for Newport East?’ So on the 4th July, please vote for Jonathan T Clark and for Plaid Cymru.”

Plaid Cymru Leader, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS, said:

“Jonathan would be a fantastic MP for Newport East. I’ve no doubt he would be a strong, local champion for Newport East in Westminster. In all parts of Wales, we can do things differently in this election. We can kick the Tories out. We can put the interests of our communities in all parts of Wales first.

“At the same time we can tell Labour that we won’t let them take Wales for granted. In Plaid Cymru, we stand apart from UK establishment politics. We don’t want the future to look like the past. We want people to feel hope about politics once again. A vote for Plaid Cymru is a vote for fairness, for ambition, and for Wales.”
